On a trip to England last year, a friend introduced me to the wonders of steak and ale pie, and since then, I’ve been looking for a good local alternative. I found an acceptable steak and mushroom pie at Bag of Beans in Tagaytay, but the crust was rather dry. Fortunately, a good choice presented itself during our trip to Mercato Centrale: beef and San Mig Light pie by Tina’s Pie Outlet.
The pie itself looked pretty good, and I loved that the crust was flaky and crumbled nicely when I sliced into it. I topped it off with a pat of butter when I heated it up, by the way. The beef itself was nice and satisfying, although I personally would have liked to see more whole chunks of lean beef than ground beef, and a little more beer would be nice too. It’s a pretty solid option in my book, though, and I’d definitely buy more of it.
